Georgia received the recommendation to be granted the status of a candidate for EU membership

The European Commission recommends to the European Council to grant Georgia the status of a candidate for EU membership

''Completing our Union is the call of history.
Today, we adopted the 2023 Enlargement Package with the following highlight.
We recommend that the Council opens accession negotiations with Ukraine. Ukrainians are deeply reforming their country. They are prepared for accession,
even if they are fighting the Russian full-scale aggression.
We recommend that the Council opens accession negotiations with Moldova. The country has undertaken significant reform efforts, despite constant destabilisation efforts against its democracy.
We recommend granting candidate status to Georgia on the understanding that the government takes important reform steps to mirror the genuine aspirations of the majority of its citizens to join our Union.
We recommend the opening of accession negotiations with Bosnia and Herzegovina once the necessary degree of compliance with the membership criteria is achieved. The country has taken positive steps. But unconstitutional laws adopted in the Republika Srpska entity are concerning.
Past enlargements have shown the enormous benefits both for the accession countries and the EU.
Completing our Union is the natural horizon of our Union '' , -  declares EU Commission
