A $34 Million Oceanfront California Home Just Broke Its Own Price Record
This is the second time the contemporary house has set a record for Orange County’s Dana Point
An oceanfront house in California’s Orange County has sold for $34 million—the second time the home has set a record for the affluent town of Dana Point.
The sellers are retired investment manager Gordon “Gordy” Crawford and his wife, Dona Crawford. The Crawfords set a Dana Point record when they paid $33 million in 2022 for the contemporary house, which is located in the Monarch Bay gated community about 60 miles from Los Angeles. Then, last year, they listed it for $39 million after buying a different home nearby. They later dropped the price to $36.5 million.
The purchaser bought $2 million worth of furniture, art and other items from the Crawfords, according to Samantha Nugent of Compass, who co-listed the roughly half-acre property with colleague Todd Davis. The purchaser was a local who wanted a gated community near the beach, Nugent said.
Phillip Caruso of Christie’s International Real Estate Southern California, who represented the buyer, declined to comment on his client’s identity but said the purchaser was drawn to roughly 7,700-square-foot home’s size and Monarch Bay’s amenities, including a private beach club.
The four-bedroom home was new when the Crawfords bought it, but they renovated the primary bathroom and converted a wine cellar into an office. There is a small pool in an interior courtyard.
Gordon, who retired in 2012, was an investment-fund manager at L.A.-based Capital Group.
