Belgian Company Jan De Nul NV To Perform Anaklia Deep Sea Port Infrastructural Works – Agreement Signed

An Agreement on the construction of the marine infrastructure of the Anaklia Deep Sea Port was signed with the Belgian company Jan De Nul, which is one of the largest marine construction companies in the world.

The signing ceremony was held at the Ministry of Economy and Sustainable Development. The document was signed by Zurab Sichinava, Director of Anaklia Sea Port LLC, and Tim Devolder, Director of the Georgian branch of the Jan De Nul NV (foreign enterprise branch) on behalf of the consortium.

Anaklia Deep Sea Port is a strategic project for Georgia, which will play an important role in the development of the country's port infrastructure, as well as in the infrastructural improvement of the Middle Corridor and the increase in competitiveness. As the Deputy Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development, Guram Guramishvili noted, it is important for the country to include a company with such great experience and high international reputation, which specializes in marine construction works, in the process of building a strategic project.

Selected from so called “Big Four”, the Belgian company Jan De Nul became a winner of the international tender announced for the implementation of marine infrastructure construction works of the Anaklia Deep Sea Port. "Jan de Nul" group was founded in 1938, its turnover is 2,5 billion euros and it employs move 7000 people. The activities of the Jan de Nul group include five main directions: setting up offshore power plants, dredging the seabed and building marine infrastructure - including harbor construction, civil construction and development of environmental projects. The geographical areas of the company's operations cover Europe, the Persian Gulf, Asia, Africa, America, etc.

It should be noted that the Belgian company Jan De Nul has participated in the implementation of such large projects as the Panama Canal expansion project, the new Suez Canal in Egypt, the new seaport in Nador (Morocco), the Hamburg port deepening project, the Palm Jebel Ali - Dubai's artificial Island and beach. 

According to Zurab Sichinava, the Director of the Anaklia Sea Port, the Belgian company will start the works stipulated by the agreement in the nearest future.
